Alpha Delta Pi’s second Week of Service is Oct 17th through Oct 25th! In celebration of our 41st anniversary partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities, we are asking alumnae to choose one day throughout this week to give back. Whether you give to RMHC or volunteer for another organization within your community, we are asking all alumnae to participate! Alumnae, collegians, and friends of ADPi are all invited to join. How will you give back?
What kind of activities should we plan for week of service?
Any service activity! From volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, to hosting a virtual 5k, there are many ways to give back! Please see below for a list of possible event ideas, including virtual events, and for other ways to give back.
Be sure to contact your local RMHC or other local charity to determine what their greatest needs are at this time!
Who is included?
All members of Alpha Delta Pi – both Alumnae and Collegians, as well as all non- Alpha Delta Pi family and friends!
Are there any restrictions?
If hosting an in-person event, it is very important you adhere to any orders and ordinances of your city, county, and state in regards to social distancing and in-person gatherings.
Be sure to register your event with the charity and request their guidelines. Some organizations require advance notice of attendees or may not want children in attendance. Check if your event needs to be registered with the community.
What do we wear?
Wear your ADPi letters! Need new ADPi gear? Check out The 1851 Shop. Please remember, you are representing Alpha Delta Pi and your local community.
Why register an event?
We want all ADPis to have the opportunity to participate, including sisters who may be visiting your area. This will help from overlapping events and increase the number of sisters who can participate.
The individual who registers the event is considered the host. This should be the designated point-person responsible for event details, answering questions, organizing a committee for the event, etc. After Week of Service concludes, the registered host will receive a survey to collect information about the event.
Where should we post our photos?
Share photos on your social media channels and be sure to use the hashtags #ADPiWeekofService #ADPilovesRMHC. You can also email high quality photos to photos@alphadeltapi.com.
What do we do after the event?
Let us know how it went! Share photos on your social media channels. Note your attendance and hours. Results from the week will be shared! Registered participants should be on the lookout for a survey as well
If I am participating in an event, should I register for the event?
Yes! If you are participating in an event, it is important that you register to for it, as some events have a limited capacity for volunteers. Registering for an event will also allow you to receive information from your event host in the event of any changes.
It is important to note that while non-Alpha Delta Pi family and friends are welcome to participate in Week of Service, a member of Alpha Delta Pi will need to complete the registration for those individuals, as the event registration form is housed in Pride Online.

RHM would like to give each family a book they can read to their child before bedtime, either in the hospital or in the house, and then take home with them to continue the routine. Think about books like Goodnight Moon and the plethora of associated titles, The Going to Bed Book, Good Night Gorilla, or ones that were your favorite as a child or parent. Books are needed for a variety of ages – so think of ones from board books to pop-up books to soft cover books.

Each square you knit is like a warm hug to child living in a tent in a refugee camp or to a child who newly arrived to the US without warm clothes or blankets. IF YOU DON’T KNIT- no problem! Their families are often forced to leave their homes, possessions, friends, and other family as they flee war zones, persecution, ethnic cleansing, etc. Help give these little souls a taste of comfort by knitting/ crocheting hats, scarves, mittens, and/ or squares that will be collected and made into blankets. Each square you knit is like a warm hug to child living in a tent in a refugee camp or to a child who newly arrived to the US without warm clothes or blankets. IF YOU DON'T KNIT- no problem! Please donate to help coverage the cost of postage and to purchase school and hygiene kits for these children.

Let's serve the children and families of His Grace Foundation at Texas Children's Hospital. HGF hosts an annual "Balloons Over the BMTU" parade on the bone marrow transplant unit at Texas Children's Hospital (their very own ~hospital safe~ Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade). We are looking for volunteers to help us organize supplies, balloons, and craft items to provide the perfect "float making kits" for the patients and their families. We look forward to hosting you at the HGF office - thanks in advance!
About His Grace Foundation:
His Grace Foundation, the adoptive organization of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMTU) of Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), was founded by Erin and John Kiltz after their youngest daughter, Gracie, was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 2 and began treatment at TCH. Typically, each year HGF serves 150 families whose children suffer from such life-threatening diseases as leukemia, neuroblastoma, SCIDS, sickle cell anemia, rare blood diseases, brain tumors and other types of cancer. Patients served by TCH often live in the Greater Houston area, but many come from other cities, states, and even countries, leaving behind their local support systems.
The families whose children are receiving treatment in the BMTU are under enormous strain. The BMTU has strict guidelines with regard to extended family and visitor access due to the fragile condition of patients prior to and after transplant. As a result, BMTU families are quite isolated for their child’s stay, which is at least four to six weeks, oftentimes longer. Without the support of extended family members and friends to help with daily needs, simply keeping up with daily errands becomes a logistical struggle.
Designed to be “grace in the need of the moment,” HGF has steadily grown, increasing in services, volunteers and impact. HGF provides each new patient with a gift basket designed specifically for him or her, as well as necessities for family members, free parking for patient families, several monthly catered meals and weekly shopping. Additional services include emergency funding, educational support and scholarships, arts in medicine program, massage therapy, and holiday and birthday celebrations. In the last several years, the foundation has expanded to provide four homes for outpatient temporary housing while families are required to maintain close proximity to the hospital.
Join us in helping Ronald McDonald House of Houston stock its toy closet for two key audiences with greatest needs: youngest children (under 36 months) and oldest patients (over 13 years). Together, these patient ages make up more than 65% of the current patients! We are collecting toys for these two ages so we can deliver as we head into the holiday season.
